Raiders roll to Vinemont Tip-Off title

VINEMONT – Good Hope's offense clicked on all cylinders to start the game and stayed strong in romping past Susan Moore 75-51 Tuesday night in the Vinemont Tip-Off Tournament championship.

Balanced scoring carried coach Drew Adams' Raiders to a 26-15 lead following the first quarter with Kallen Sharpton and Matt Cofer combining for 14 points on five field goals and two free throws.

The Raiders started fast with an 11-4 lead and went on to extend the advantage to 24-8 before Susan Moore started to get some shots in from Isaac Adams and Micah Ogles.

A good start in the second period carried the Raiders to a 34-18 lead, only to have the Bulldogs finish with a 13-7 run and narrow the deficit to 41-31 at halftime.

Susan Moore began the second half with momentum and had trimmed the deficit to a field goal, but the Raiders able to get command of the game and take a 61-49 lead into the fourth period.

The Raiders shut down the Bulldogs, allowing them a field goal in the last 8:00 and finishing the contest on a 15-2 run, heading to the weekend with a game Friday at Danville 2-0 and eager to move forward in the first week of the Adams' era at the 4A school in southwest Cullman County.

Isaac McDonald scorched the Bulldogs for a championship game-high 22 points and had plenty of support. Matt Cofer added 16, Blake Lyle got 15, Sharpton finished with 14, Mason Moniz five, Josh Cofer two and Cohen White one.

Adams tossed in 16 for the Bulldogs, who fell to 1-1, with Ogles scoring 13 and Angel Vorte hitting seven.

 

Winston County rallies to win girls' championship:

Trailing 10-3 after the game's opening quarter, the Winston County Lady Jackets stormed back to claim the tip-off title, defeating New Hope 45-36.

The Lady Jackets reduced the margin to 21-16 at halftime and went on a 13-4 run in the third period to take a 29-25 advantage.

A 16-11 edge in scoring in the final period created breathing room for the Lady Jackets to go 2-0 on the season, while New Hope fell to 1-1.

Mackenzie Blackwood directed the Winston County win with 15, Hannah Alexander scored 10 and Abby West netted nine.

For New Hope, Emma Nunnelly was the leader, hitting for 14 with Kylie Martin scoring 10.

New Hope will play the Holly Pond Lady Broncos Thursday in their home opener, which will be the debut of Paige Parker-Adams as new coach for the Lady Broncos.

 

Winston County tops Vinemont in third place game:

Winston County broke a 25-25 halftime tie with Vinemont, outscoring the Eagles 33-14 in the second half to claim a 58-49 decision in the third place game.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Adam Kilgore with 11, Hayden Hodge nine, Hunter Hodge eight and Tucker Speer seven, getting their first win of the young season.

Vinemont fell to 0-2. Leading the Eagles was Garrett Boland with a game high 24 points, Corbin Barnett eight, Jaython Blanton seven.

The Eagles will welcome the West Point Warriors to town for a count regular season game Thursday. It will be the season opener for West Point.

Oneonta's Lady Redskins won the third place game over Vinemont, sending the Lady Eagles to an 0-2 start on the season.
