WEST POINT, Ala. – The Brandin’ Iron Steakhouse’s ninth annual Veterans Day Thanks-Giving Appreciation Dinner will take place Monday, Nov. 25, from noon-6 p.m.
Brandin’ Iron General Manager Josh Speakman said the event averages around 1,100 meals in-house for the day.
“We provide a homemade traditional Thanksgiving menu featuring turkey, dressing, ham, sweet potato casserole, green beans, dinner roll and variety of homemade desserts,” he said. “We have so many people who pour in and make this a memorable meal.”
Cullman VFW POST 2214 Commander Brian Monk said the group tries to take care of every veteran and their families all year long.
“We try our best to assist them with whatever life may throw their way, whether it’s good or bad,” he said. “Our goal is that no veteran or their family should have to do without. The holidays can be rough and hard for some. It can also be rewarding. This year once again we will partner with the Brandin’ Iron in West Point to feed over 1,100 veterans and family members for the ninth year in a row. Some of those wouldn’t have a Thanksgiving meal without us. A lot of veterans just enjoy being around other vets! Veteran families can come in and enjoy a meal with us.”
Monk thanked the community for the donations, time and effort that help make the meal possible.
“We also are so thankful for our local sheriff’s office for helping us deliver meals to our home-bound veterans,” he said. “Oh, and I cannot say thank you enough to all my VFW and Auxiliary members along with the many volunteers from the Brandin’ Iron that really make all this possible by cooking all the wonderful and delicious food. Once again to all that have helped, donated or will be helping, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
When asked about memories stick out to him over the years, Speakman said there are too many specific memories to name just a few.
“But the best of times generates from sharing in the fellowship amongst the guests and our local heroes,” Speakman said. “We are always so blessed to do this event for the community.”
He said to call 256-739-1112 to schedule a delivery of a meal to a home-bound veteran. Deliveries will be made by the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office.
The ninth annual Veterans Day Thanks-Giving Appreciation Dinner will take place Monday, Nov. 25, from noon-6 p.m. at The Brandin’ Iron Steakhouse, located at 87 County Road 1242. All local veterans and their families are welcome. This event is completely free.
