CULLMAN – This weekend, the Knights of Columbus and the youth group of Sacred Heart Catholic Church came together to raise money for roof repairs at Sacred Heart School.
The roof of the school began to leak, and excess moisture caused mold to begin growing, which posed a health risk to the students, so measures were undertaken to clean and repair the areas. The cost to fix everything was estimated to be around $200,000, so the Knights and the youth group set up fundraisers to help ease the financial strain.
A BBQ baked potato supper was hosted by the youth group, and the Knights held a Bingo game immediately following the supper. Members of the community were more than happy to help the school, filling the Family Life Center and causing the supper to completely run out of potatoes. Even people who neither ate nor participated in Bingo donated to the repair fund.
It is currently unknown how much money the two groups raised. When asked for a comment, youth director Jacqueline Hill stated, "We saw a need and we're trying to fill it."
The youth group will be hosting other fundraisers in January and February for Relay for Life.
