FAIRVIEW, Ala. – The Fairview Town Council meeting on Monday, Nov. 4, was called to order by Mayor Keith Henry and opened with an invocation by Councilwoman Julie Grimes.

Henry started the meeting by recapping his trip to Montgomery. The mayor traveled there last month in an effort to obtain funding through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs Land and Water Conservation Fund for the new Fairview park project. He stated that the meeting was successful and that he was assured upon submittal of the proper paperwork, financing of up to $1 million would be available.

The council then participated in a lengthy debate over the best allocation of the funds. Councilman Steve Eddleman said that before voting to pass any motions on park spending the council should ensure “we are not depleting so much out of our funds that we cannot take care of other responsibilities.”

After reviewing the budget, the council agreed that with the approval of the ADECA grant, along with the remaining balance of American Rescue Plan funds, investing in the park would be an asset to the community and generate revenue to continue to provide for other projects.

The proposed location of the new park is behind Fairview Town Hall off Randall Shedd Lane. Phase 1 of the project would include creating two new ball fields and roads to access the park.

The next Fairview Town Council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Dec. 2, at Fairview Town Hall located at 7525 Alabama Highway 69.
