ADDISON, Ala. – The Addison Bulldogs hosted the Phillips Bears and Addison thoroughly dominated the over-matched Bears in every facet of the game and with a running clock in the second half Addison came away with a 57-0 victory to improve to 6-4 on the year.
Addison kicked off and on the Bears opening drive, facing a third and 11, Addison’s Trennon Burns picked off a Bear pass, this would become a regular occurrence during this game. Burns took it all the way back for the touchdown getting credit for the twenty-eight-yard return. Wyatt Anderson ran in the two-point conversion and at the 10:45 mark of the first quarter, Addison led 8-0.
On the Bears second possession they managed a first down and then facing another third and long, Bulldog Seth Hammack picked off a pass and returned it twelve yards back to the Bear 37-yard line. Five plays later, Judah Wilkins scampered in from four yards out for the touchdown. Anderson again ran in the two-point conversion and with 7:29 left in the first quarter, Addison led 16-0.
The Bulldogs yet again intercepted a Bears pass, this time it was Scout Flynn who returned the ball twenty-six yards down to the Bear 22. It only took the Bulldogs two-plays to score as FB Jaxson Williams rumbled in from 11 yards out for the touchdown. The Anderson extra point was no good and still with 5:31 to go in the first quarter, Addison led 22-0.
The Bears didn’t turn the ball over on their next drive but were forced to punt and that is when Bulldog Elijah Roberts returned the punt 46 yards, down to the Bears’ 34-yard line. A dead ball personal foul penalty against Phillips moved the ball down to the 19. Addison QB Roberts found Flynn wide open for a 19-yard touchdown catch and run on the next play. Anderson kicked the extra point and with 2:14 left in the first quarter, Addison led 29-0.
Phillips’ next possession was the same as the previous ones. Addison’s Roberts picked off a Phillips pass and returned it forty yards for the touchdown. Roberts then hit Dathan Cleghorn for the two-point conversion and still with 1:01 left in the first quarter, Addison was leading 37-0. With Roberts’ interception, Addison tied an AHSAA record for most interceptions in a quarter with four.
After forcing a three and out punt from Phillips deep in their own territory, Addison took advantage of a zero-yard punt. Addison’s Joey Wilson cashed it in from eight yards out for the score. Anderson nailed the extra point and at the 11:04 mark of the second quarter, Addison was up 44-0.
Phillips put together their best drive of the first half against Addison’s second team defense as they moved the ball down to the Addison 27-yard line. That is when Carter Pratt stepped in front of a Bear pass and then he ran seventy-two yards all the way down to the Bear eight-yard line. Pratt wasn’t tackled, he completely blew all four tires and ran out of gas at the eight. Addison Head Coach David Smothers wasn’t about to let Pratt’s effort go to waste so on the very next play, Pratt caught an eight-yard touchdown pass from Flynn. Good thing there was a lot of space for Pratt to run to because you could tell he still hadn’t recovered from that marathon he ran the play earlier. Anderson nailed the extra point and at the 8:01 mark of the second quarter, Addison was firmly in control 51-0.
The Bears next possession must have seemed like they were living in the movie “Ground Hog Day” as Anderson intercepted Addison’s sixth pass of the first half and returned it 45 yards for the score. The point after was no good and Addison led 57-0 with 7:20 to go in the half. This is how the first half ended.
With both Head Coaches agreeing to a running clock the second half flew by. Addison continued playing their youngsters and Phillips kept trying to score. Addison’s young pups came away tied in the second half with the Bears on the scoreboard. Addison also had three second half touchdowns called back due to penalty. For all intents and purposes, they were mercy penalties to keep the score down. Addison’s Coach Smothers even declined all penalties against the Bears in the second half.
Addison came away with a solid but expected 57-0 victory over a game but overmatched Phillips squad. Addison moves to 6-4 (5-2 region) and is off next week.

Addison’s Roberts completed 3 of his 4 attempts for 30 yards and a touchdown. Flynn was 2 completions in 4 attempts for 11 yards and a touchdown.
Addison’s Wilson had 6 carries for 62 yards and a touchdown. Wilkins had 3 carries for 28 yards and a score. Silas Frazier had 2 carries for 12 yards. Williams had 1 carry for 11 yards and a score. Hammack had 1 carry for 10 yards.
Addison’s Flynn had 1 catch for 19 yards and a touchdown. Pratt had 2 catches for 13 yards and a touchdown. Hammack 1 catch for 11 yards.
On defense Addison was led by Anderson with 7 tackles. Major Snoddy had 6 tackles. Tanner Gaither had 4 tackles. Wilson had 3 tackles. Williams, Hammack, Noah Brenton, Shelton Alexander and Frazier with 2 tackles each.
Kaden Dyson and Anderson had a sack each. Interceptions by Burns (TD), Hammack, Flynn, Roberts (TD), Pratt and Anderson (TD).
