CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman High School senior Aaron Byrd was recently designated a National Merit Commended Student.

The school said in a statement, “Cullman High School is proud to announce that senior Aaron Byrd has been designated as a National Merit Commended Student by the National Merit Scholarship Program for the 2024-2025 school year.  Last fall, Aaron joined over 1.3 million juniors across the nation who entered the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).  This fall, more than two-thirds (about 34,000) of the PSAT/NMSQT® high scorers were designated Commended Students. They were named on the basis of a nationally applied Selection Index qualifying score that may vary from year to year.

“In recognition of his outstanding ability and potential for academic success in college, the NMSC will honor Aaron by sending a Letter of Commendation to him through Cullman High School. Although Commended Students will not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, some may be candidates for Special Scholarships offered by corporate sponsors.  Aaron Byrd is the son of Kevin and Carrie Byrd of Cullman.”
