FAYETTE, Ala. – After picking up a big region win over Hamilton a week ago, the Good Hope Raiders hit the road Friday night for another critical region matchup at Fayette County. The Raiders went into the locker room leading 13-6 at halftime and continued pulling away in the second half to earn a 34-12 win and remain undefeated.

Good Hope forced the Tigers to turn the ball over on downs on their first possession. A big run by Mason Drake moved the Raiders into and just a few plays later, quarterback Tyler Cone connected with Carter Rutherford for a touchdown through the air and Robert Rodriguez split the uprights with the extra point to give Good Hope a 7-0 lead early in the second quarter.

It didn’t take long for the Raiders to add to their lead. After making another stop on defense, Cone hit Tucker Malin streaking down the sideline for a 60-yard touchdown pass and put Good Hope in front 13-0 with 7:40 to play in the first half. Fayette County was able to find the end zone before halftime and cut the lead to 13-6 at the break.

The Raiders kicked off to the Tigers to start the third quarter but recovered a fumble to take over with great field position at the start of the second half. Later in the third, a big gain on another pass to Rutherford set up a 43-yard touchdown run by Drake and extended Good Hope’s lead to 20-6 midway through the quarter. Fayette County responded on the ensuing possession, driving down the field and into the end zone for a touchdown to make it a 20-12 game with just over a minute remaining in the third.

The Raiders picked up big yardage on a deep pass to Malin on the final play of the third quarter and at the start of the fourth, Mason ran one in from 7 yards for another touchdown to keep Good Hope ahead 27-12. The Raiders continued to do damage through the air, picking up another big gain on a pass to Rutherford and later scoring on a 41-yard touchdown pass from Cone to Malin to make it a 34-12 game with four minutes to play. Good Hope recovered a Fayette County fumble on the ensuing possession and kept the chains moving and the clock running to wrap up a big, 34-12 road win over the Tigers.

The Raiders improve to 8-0 with the win and they’ll be back home next week to take on Dora.
