VINEMONT, Ala. – Vinemont Councilman Chris Thompson, at the council’s meeting on Oct. 15, resigned from his seat – place No. 1.

In August 2020, Thompson bested Incumbent JoAnn Oakley for the seat and has held his position since. In his candidacy announcement, the more than 20-year resident of the town stated that he hoped to help move the municipality into the future.

The 2020 candidacy announcement stated, “I have lived in South Vinemont and been in business for myself since 1991. In that time, I have watched the city of Cullman grow to what it is today and questioned why South Vinemont has not progressed at all. It is time for our town to move forward, and in order for that to happen, we need change.”

Thompson has helped spearhead projects and events in Vinemont such as the updated walking trail at Vinemont Community Park, several clean-up days at Henry and Roe Wood Park and the community favorite annual Grillin’ and Chillin’ BBQ Fest at the Vinemont Sportsplex.

Thompson is also owner of a few local businesses, most notably  Man Cave Market.

Thompson’s resignation letter to Mayor Radginal Dodson and the remainder of the council said,

After a lot of thought and soul searching, I have come to the conclusion that the best thing for me at this time would be to submit my resignation for my position of Town Councilman place #1 for the Town of South Vinemont.

It is time for me to put my passion, creativity, and energy towards my businesses.

It has been a great honor to have had the opportunity to serve as Council member and assist with the growth of Vinemont.

I have always focused on what was best for Vinemont with passion. It was not personal

But always business.

It has been an honor serving with you all. I will continue to support Vinemont when I have the opportunity to do so.

Thompson’s vacancy will be the third since April. Thompson’s follows the resignations of Charlotte Cosper in April and Sonya Copeland in June.

Vinemont residents interested in the vacancy on the council should contact town hall at 256-737-5411.
