CULLMAN, Ala. – “Help us, help them.”

Bethlehem West Baptist Church (BWBC) is stepping up to assist communities in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, that were recently devastated by Hurricane Helene. Coty and Lili Flynn, the church’s newly appointed youth pastors currently living in Rutherfordton, are central to this outreach effort.

Just two weeks ago, the Flynns were called to Cullman to lead the youth ministry at BWBC. While preparing to move and putting their house on the market, Hurricane Helene struck, causing widespread destruction in their local community. In response, BWBC is rallying support to collect essential items to send to the affected areas.

Pastor Shane Wheeler shared the urgency of the donation drive: “Our first trailer truck load will leave out of here Friday. They will be prepared to receive that Saturday morning when they wake up. The material will be going to Rutherfordton, Forest City and another local community. These are all smaller, rural areas that the storm has wiped out portions of their community.”

Donations can be dropped off at the BWBC LifeCenter, located at 14310 Alabama Highway 157. Drop-off times are Thursday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and Friday from 8-10 a.m. Essential items needed include:

  • Formula, wipes, baby essentials (blankets, clothing)
  • Nonperishable food items
  • Cases of water
  • Toilet paper and paper towels
  • Battery-powered fans, flashlights and extra batteries
  • Boxed juices and canned drinks

Wheeler expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community, saying “It’s been overwhelming, the generosity and the outpouring so far. We will be taking donations until Friday, with the truck leaving Friday afternoon, and several of our folks going up over the weekend to work, serve and help in any way they can.”

BWBC invites everyone to help provide much-needed relief for these small, rural communities. For more information or to get involved, visit Bethlehem West Baptist Church or call 256-739-5858.
