SouthernStyle CrossFit will hold a benefit competition and car show on Oct. 19 to raise money for the Weston Clay Memorial Fund, Inc. (Misty Thomas)

ADDISON, Ala. – October is a difficult month for Misty Thomas. The mother of two and owner of multiple small businesses lost her oldest son, Weston Montgomery, in a motorcycle accident last year on Oct. 3, when he was just 18.

Using her business skills to turn tragedy into triumph and pain into progress, Thomas is hosting a CrossFit Benefit Competition and Car Show at Addison High School on Oct. 19, beginning at 8 a.m. The event will raise funds and awareness for the Weston Clay Memorial Fund, Inc., an organization dedicated to advancing students enrolled in Cullman Area Technology Academy’s machine shop program, which her son completed and loved.

“All of the proceeds will go to the Weston Clay Memorial Fund, Inc.,” shared Thomas. “Last year we gave $2,000 to the senior the instructor and principal chose for the award.”

The show is set to be a day of laughs, sweat and fun as muscle cars and large muscles meet on the pavement for SouthernStyle CrossFit’s first outdoor competition. Registration fees range from $160-$162, based on level. The competition will host RX (prescribed) Masters (40-plus) and Scaled (modified) workouts in five categories.

Food trucks will be on-site.

Contestants can register for the CrossFit competition online at https://app.conquestevents.net/events/southern-style-crossfit-benefit-competition/details and for the car show by contacting Thomas or SouthernStyle CrossFit on Facebook or at 256-615-5305.
