WALNUT GROVE, Ala. – Vinemont traveled to take on the West End Patriots on a soggy and misty night in Etowah County. The Eagles got off to fast start to build an early lead and never looked back as they came away with a 36-6 victory over the Pats.

West End elected to receive the ball to start the game and picked up two first downs, but Vinemont forced a turnover when Hayden Robinson intercepted the pass giving the Eagles the ball on the 19-yard line. Chad Reynolds raced 81 yards on the ensuing play to put Vinemont up 8-0 midway through the first quarter. On the ensuing possession the Eagles defense stiffened on fourth and one to give the ball back to their offense, Vinemont went on a lengthy drive that resulted in a 30-yard touchdown pass from Rush Sandlin to Reese Foell to put Vinemont up 16-0 early in the second quarter.

Vinemont quickly regained possession as the defense forced a three and out, with four and a half minutes remaining until halftime Sandlin hooked up with Reynolds from 13 yards out to put the Eagles up 24-0. Once again Vinemont forced another quick turnover to give their offense another opportunity to score before halftime, with 36 seconds left until halftime Reynolds plunged in from one yard out to extend the lead to 30-0. Another fumble gave the ball back to Vinemont with a short field but with little time and only one timeout the Eagles came away empty handed as time expired in the first half.

Vinemont received the second half kick-off and took all but 2:47 seconds of the third quarter off the clock as they extended the led to 36-0 when Hayden Robinson scored from 7 yards out. Vinemont started subbing and chewing clock, the Pats cut the led to 36-6 with 8:44 remaining in the game. West End only saw the ball once the remainder of the game, the drive ended in a turnover on downs. Once Vinemont got the ball back, they were able to run the remaining time off the clock to secure a 36-6 victory for the Eagles.

Vinemont improves to 5-1 with the win and the Eagles will be back home next week to take on Hanceville.
