VINEMONT, Ala. – Vinemont welcomed the Carbon Hill Bulldogs in for homecoming Friday night and the Eagles celebrated the end of the week’s festivities with a 45-7 victory on the field.
Vinemont received the opening kick-off and quickly jumped out to an 8-0 lead when Chad Reynolds scored from 5 yards out. Three plays later Hayden Robinson intercepted the Bulldogs pass to set the Eagles up with excellent field possession, Rush Sandlin capped off the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to put the Eagles up 16-0 with four and a half minutes left in the opening quarter.
Vinemont forced a three and out on their next defensive possession, the offense scored once more before the end of the quarter when Josh Rhodes found Reese Foell for a 15-yard touchdown to put the Eagles up 24-0. Vinemont’s defense forced another turnover on their next defensive possession when Malachi Adams intercepted the pass.
Carbon Hill received the second half kick-off, but the Eagles defense forced a turnover on downs, the Eagles quickly found the endzone when Chase Blair raced in from 5 yards out to put the Eagles up 30-0 midway through the third quarter. Late in the third quarter the Bulldogs got on the board to cut the lead to 30-7. Two plays later Vinemont answered back when Rush Sandlin found Reese Foell for his second touchdown of the night, this time from 68, to put the Eagles up 37-7. Vinemont forced another three-and-out, giving the ball back to the offense. A long, time-consuming drive ended with a 3-yard touchdown run by Gabriel Herrera and put the Eagles up 45-7 midway through the fourth quarter.
Vinemont got the ball back after stopping the Bulldogs on fourth down, but with two minutes left the game was called due to an injury. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the young man and his family.
The Eagles improve to 4-1 with the win and they’ll be back on the road next week to play West End.
