MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The Cullman Bearcats were back on the road for another region game at Muscle Shoals Friday night and tying things up at 7 early on, the Trojans began to pull away before the end of the first half. The ‘Cats were able to get some more points on the board in the second half but couldn’t keep pace with Muscle Shoals and fell on the road 55-27.
Trailing 7-0 midway through the first quarter, quarterback Preston Gay hit Cooper Ogstead through the air for a touchdown to tie the game at 7. However, the Trojans answered the score on the ensuing kickoff, taking it back 98 yards for a touchdown and moving back in front 14-7. A pair of Muscle Shoals touchdowns extended the lead to 28-7 midway through the second quarter. Cullman was able to get some points on the board before halftime when Cooper Loftin took a handoff 12 yards for a touchdown, trimming the lead to 28-14.
The Trojans weren’t done adding to their lead in the first half though, scoring on a touchdown pass in the final seconds of the second quarter to make it a 35-14 game at halftime.
Muscle Shoals stretched its lead to 49-14 early in the third quarter but Gay scrambled into the end zone from 11 yards out to stop the run and cut the lead to 49-20. A pair of field goals put the Trojans ahead 55-20 later in the fourth and Gay’s second touchdown run of the night, this one from 12 yards out, made it a 55-27 game. Those were the final points of the night and Muscle Shoals held on to defeat the Bearcats 55-27.
Cullman falls to 2-3 with the loss and the ‘Cats will be back on the road next week to take on Brewer.
