CULLMAN – If you are looking for an opportunity to socialize, enjoy live music and most of all eat, then plan on visiting Grace Café at Grace Episcopal Church. The café opens in the parish hall every fourth Tuesday to serve heaping portions of delicious food and enjoy warm fellowship. Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and The Arnold Street Band plays from 12-12:30 p.m. all at no cost!

Interim Pastor Bill Blackerby said, “They have on average 100 people show up for a free lunch, no questions asked.” He said that some of the people like to give a donation at the time of their visit, but it is not expected of anyone. “There are some folks there who are on a fixed income and at the end of the month, it’s a little tight.” He said it is a great opportunity for those folks to enjoy a free meal with friends. In addition to eating, he added that some people attend to socialize. “I think some people come for the social aspect, some because they need a good meal, and some come for a little bit of both.”

Blackerby said, “It’s not something that one person could do by themselves. It’s a group of people that get together at the church.” It is important for the church folks to come together with one another to serve and have fun. It is also important to reach out to the community to show them love and acceptance. Blackerby added that it is a good atmosphere for people to be shown the gift of a meal and enjoy music and fellowship in a casual setting.

Grace Café will be open on Tuesday, December 23 and will resume in January of 2015. Visit gracecullman.dioala.org for more information about upcoming events at Grace Episcopal Church.
