PREP FOOTBALL: Vinemont bounces back with 32-28 win at Midfield

MIDFIELD, Ala. – After falling in four overtimes on the road at Phil Campbell last week, the Vinemont Eagles found themselves in another tight game Friday night. However, the Eagles were able to finish the game strong and leave Midfield with a hard-fought, 32-28 region win.

Midfield scored quickly to take an 8-0 lead, Vinemont answered midway through the first quarter when Chad Reynolds scored from 5 yards out to tie the game at 8. Midfield regained the lead midway through the second quarter 16-8. Late in the first half Kayden Henderson raced into the end zone from 29 yards out to tie the game at 16.

Vinemont received the second half kick-off and pounded its way down the field but eventually fell a yard short on fourth down. Four plays later, the Eagles defense got the ball back thanks to a Kayden Henderson interception. The Eagles capitalized on the turnover when Chad Reynolds scored from 9 yards out to put the Eagles up 24-16 late in the third quarter.

Midfield answered quickly to pull to within two at 24-22. Four plays later, Vinemont answered when Josh Rhodes raced in from 6 yards out to put the Eagles up 32-22. Midway through the fourth quarter the Patriots cut the lead to 32-28.

Vinemont’s offense chewed up clock but eventually stalled out to give the ball back to the Patriots with 30 seconds remaining in the game. The Eagles’ defense stepped up and Chad Reynolds sealed the game with an interception, securing a 32-28 region win for Vinemont.

The Eagles improve to 3-1 with the win and they’ll be back home next week to host Carbon Hill.
