SCOTTSBORO, Ala. — The defending state champion Cold Springs Eagles and Lady Eagles were in the field at the Scottsboro Invitational Saturday morning and both teams put together great performances. The Lady Eagles placed first in the small school race thanks in large part to top 10 finishes from Macie Huffstutler (2nd), Claire Huffstutler (4th), Paizley Whitlow (5th), Kynzlie Myrex (9th) and Hayla Watson (10th).
In the small school boys’ race, Cold Springs’ Sage Nelson cruised to 1st place with a time of 17:09.34 and Drew Dykes finished just behind him in 2nd place with a time of 17:50.65. Logan Perdue posted a 19:04.53 to round out the top 10 and help lead the Eagles to a runner up team finish.
At the Pepsi XC Challenge in Moulton, Holly Pond’s Travis Barnett (17:34.17), Joshua Putman (18:24.76) and Matthew Putman (18:28.80) placed third, fourth and fifth respectively in the small schools boys race. Holly Pond’s Mila Edmondson (23:56.49) finished 10th in the small school girls race and Cullman Christian’s Elisabeth DeCicco (24:28.15) placed 15th.
In the large school boys division, Connor Robinson (17:30.18) led the way for Cullman with a 9th place finish and Henry Crocker (17:38.90) and Andrue Barnett (17:42.41) placed 12th and 13th respectively to help secure a 3rd place team finish for the Bearcats. West Point was led by Rene Moreno-Tovar (18:23.49) who placed 35th.Â
In the large school girls’ competition, Cullman’s Mabry Free (20:43.59) earned an 8th place finish and Addi Vogelaar (20:52.60) finished just behind her in 11th place to help the Lady Bearcats claim a 5th place team finish.
