CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City Council on Monday took a moment in its meeting to recognize the city’s wastewater treatment plant, which was recently rated the best in Alabama.
Council Utilities Committee Chairman David Moss told the council and audience, “For the second time in three years, Cullman’s wastewater treatment plant is recognized as the best operated plant in the state of Alabama, in its category. This is based on test results, the safety, overall operations. So they finished in the top three the last four years, but they’re recognized as the No. 1 plant in the state, and it’s a very competitive thing, and it’s something to be very proud of.”
Council business
The council approved four special event requests:
- From Chris Brooks of Cullman Lions Club for the annual Cullman County Fair Parade on Sept. 28, 2024
- From Joyce Nix of St Bernard for the annual Blues & BBQ Arts & Crafts Festival on Sept. 7-8, 2024
- From Amanda Lee of St Paul’s for a Fall Festival on Oct. 13, 2024, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church
- From Rita Dean for a Warehouse District Annual Street Sale on Sept. 13-14, 2024, on First Ave. NE
The council approved three alcohol license requests:
- From Bravo Investments LLC, DBA Bravo 17, 504 Second Ave. NW, for a beer and wine off-premises alcohol license
- From Bravo Investments LLC, DBA Bravo 18, 1667 Cherokee Ave. SW, for a beer and wine off-premises alcohol license
- From Sipsey Vineyard and Winery, 515 Fourth St. SW, Ste 103, for a wine off-premises alcohol license
The council approved multiple resolutions to extend bids for construction materials and services to vendors who agreed to maintain current contract prices until Nov. 30, 2025:
- For concrete finishing to Ortiz Concrete, Inc.
- For electrical services with K & M Electrical Contractors, LLC
- For rock material with Wiregrass Construction Company, Inc.
- For concrete material with Ready Mix USA
- To furnish and lay hot mix with The Rogers Group, Inc.
- For hot and cold mix with The Rogers Group, Inc.
- For surface treatments with Chilton Contractors, Inc. until Nov. 30, 2025
- For black and gray pipe with Bear Concrete Products, Inc.
The council also awarded a bid for a natural grid parking system for Depot Park to Vodaland in the amount of $66,463. To be located in the old farmers’ market green space across from the new skate park and police headquarters, the parking area will feature a large amount of recycled materials and maintain a more natural appearance than a typical parking lot.
The Cullman City Council meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, at 7 p.m. in the Cullman City Hall auditorium. The public is invited to attend.
