CULLMAN, Ala. – This Sunday, Aug. 25, residents will have the opportunity to step inside one of the area’s nonprofits, the Good Samaritan Health Clinic. The clinic and its staff have been preparing for an Open House to celebrate the clinic’s 20th anniversary in the Cullman community, as well as the milestone of $1.9 million raised to aid in the construction of a new and state-of-the-art clinic building.

“The Open House is this Sunday; it’s to celebrate 20 years of Good Samaritan Health Clinic,” shared Executive Director Jolanda Hutson. “It’s very timely in that now we are in the middle of a capital campaign to build a new facility.”

The new facility will be an estimated 5,050-square-foot clinic with four exam rooms, a cardio room to promote wellness and prevention, a drive-through medication dispensary and ample waiting area space that can be used for after-hours patient education.

Said Hutson, “The goal of this open house is for the community members who maybe don’t know a lot of what Good Samaritan is about, who we serve, the services we provide and the impact we make on the community.”

Since 2004, the clinic has treated thousands of Cullman County residents who are uninsured, whether by job loss or unemployment, financial constraints or the loss of coverage under a spouse’s plan. The Good Samaritan Health Clinic prides itself on offering exceptional care for the area’s uninsured at no cost to the patient.

Through partnerships with other providers in the area, the clinicians at Good Samaritan are able act as primary care as well as treat chronic and long-term illnesses and disabilities. Monthly, the Lions Club International Mobile Eye Clinic makes a stop at Good Samaritan to outfit residents in need with a pair of correctly fitting and prescribed eyeglasses. Acute and urgent care, dental screenings, mental health services, hearing evaluations and other referrals for services are also available to Good Samaritan clients.

“A lot of people who are uninsured are just one diagnosis away from despair and fear and anxiety and possible financial dire straits,” Hutson said. “We want to come alongside them to encourage them and assist them to get the health care they need.”
