CULLMAN, Ala. – In light of the recent economic challenges, two beloved Hanceville businesses, Vintage Magnolias and Just Repurposed, are joining forces to ensure their continued success. Both shops, which have become staples in the Hanceville community, have felt the strain of the economy’s effects on small-town business ownership. This partnership marks an exciting new chapter for both owners and their loyal customers.
Nancy Macon, the owner of Just Repurposed, has been a prominent figure in Hanceville for over 12 years. Alongside her husband Mike, Macon has contributed significantly to Hanceville’s community through her business, which focuses on painting and repurposing furniture. As she looks forward to retiring this year, the opportunity to share her space with another local business arose at just the right time.
Maggie Sotelo, the owner of Vintage Magnolias, opened her antique shop in 2022 and quickly attracted customers from across the state. However, like many small business owners, Sotelo has faced the challenges of a tough economy. Seeking to downsize her shop to reduce costs and maintain her business for a few more years, she found an opportunity in a neighboring business, Just Repurposed.
The idea of sharing a storefront emerged during one of Sotelo’s visits with Macon. After much consideration, both women decided to turn this vision into reality. As a result, Vintage Magnolias will be moving into the historic building that has housed Just Repurposed, allowing the two businesses to combine resources while maintaining their unique identities.
“We will be sharing the storefront. We will be joining forces. Vintage Magnolias will be on one side of the building and Just Repurposed is going to on the right side of the building. We will have the best of both worlds in one building for you,” Sotelo stated, sharing her excitement on the new collaboration.
The historic building where the two businesses will now operate has a rich history in Hanceville. Constructed by the Rauchmann sisters in 1920 after a devastating fire, the building has served various purposes over the years, including a general store, funeral parlor and dress shop. Now, it will be the home of both Just Repurposed and Vintage Magnolias, continuing its legacy as a central part of the community.
Vintage Magnolias will close its current location on Aug. 31, with the move scheduled to take place after Labor Day with the goal of reopening by Sept. 14. The first Fall Open House at the new location is set for Saturday, Oct. 5.
Sotelo expressed her gratitude to her customers for their continued support, saying, “From the bottom of our hearts, we are so grateful to all of you who have supported us. It all started out here at this red brick building. This is where our vision came. You guys have been absolutely awesome in supporting us here.”
She continued, “We love you all and hope that you will continue to support us. We will only be half a block over on the corner. We are really excited about this collaboration with Just Repurposed! ”
