CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman County CASA, a nonprofit program under Cullman Caring for Kids, is urgently seeking volunteers to join its mission of advocating for children in dependency cases. The organization plays a crucial role as a third-party advocate, ensuring the voices and needs of children are heard in court. CASA volunteers gather information, interact with everyone involved in the child’s life and provide valuable insights to the judge.

This year alone, Cullman County CASA has served over 170 children with the help of just 23 dedicated volunteers. However, more volunteers are needed to continue providing this essential service.

Cullman County District Court Judge Rusty Turner highlighted the significance of CASA volunteers in the Juvenile Dependency Court of Cullman County, saying, “The Cullman County CASA program and its volunteers are an integral part of the Juvenile Dependency Court of Cullman County. CASA volunteers are an ‘extra set of eyes’ that help the Department of Human Resources, the attorneys representing parents and children and the court identify the resources needed for the best interest of the children before the Juvenile Dependency Court. In many cases, the involvement of CASA volunteers has helped children be reunified with their parents or placed in settings that benefit the children in the best situation for them.”

Volunteer requirements include:

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Pass a criminal and DHR background check
  • Have reliable transportation
  • Complete a 30-hour training program
  • Be sworn in by the judge

If you meet these requirements and are passionate about making a difference in the lives of children, consider becoming a CASA volunteer. The volunteer application is located at https://casamanager.com/volunteer-application-1099. Your involvement can provide critical support to children and help ensure they are placed in the best possible environments for their growth and well-being.
