CULLMAN, Ala. – The Friends of the Public Libraries of Cullman County (FPLCC) and the Cullman County Public Library System (CCPLS) on Thursday celebrated the third year of the partnership between the FPLCC and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which puts books into the hands of local children aged 5 and younger at no cost to families.
“The Imagination Library is excited to celebrate three years of serving over 3,000 children from birth to 5 years of age in Cullman County,” said FPLCC’s Tanya Allcorn. “I was fortunate enough to help bring this wonderful program to our children in Cullman and could not be more proud of our success.”
Local families with qualifying children can register online at ccimaginationlibrary.com or by contacting the FPLCC. Many businesses and organizations in the area, including the Cullman Electric Cooperative, Cullman County Schools and the Cullman County Commission, sponsor the Imagination Library monetarily in tandem with the FPLCC.
These sponsors and donors ensure that each participating child in the area can receive one book per month straight to their mailbox, completely free of charge.
Allcorn shared, “This affiliation would not be possible without our local partnerships in helping to deliver over 75,000 books since the beginning of our program.”
Attendees at the birthday celebration were greeted with traditional party refreshments including cake, sandwiches and punch. While enjoying the snacks and offerings, guests could listen to local author Caris Snider as she read her book, “There’s an Elephant on My Chest,” to the gathered group of children and adults. Her book follows the anxiety that can sometimes come with growing up, attending school and the pressures of adolescence. Allie, the book’s main character, wakes up with anxiety that feels like “an elephant on her chest,” and her family and friends help ease the fears away.
Snider is the author of several devotionals and stories for young and adolescent children. Her works can be found on Amazon or at the Cullman County Public Library.
