CULLMAN, Ala. – The Good Samaritan Health Clinic on Friday, June 28, partnered with staff of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System to host a health expo, offering clinic patients information on nutrition, living with diabetes and simple home fitness routines.
Della Bramley shared examples of proper food portions and meal sizes while guests sampled simple but healthy snacks. Shanetria Orr walked guests through fun exercises that can be done at home, while Meaghanne Thompson shared information about diabetes. At the end of their visits, patients got to take home door prizes, resistance band sets for home exercise and bags of fresh produce grown by Master Gardener Brad Mitchell with the Grow More Give More program.
“This is the first of many similar events the clinic plans to host to promote wellness and prevention among our patients and community,” said Good Samaritan Executive Director Jolanda Hutson.
Big plans in the works
As the clinic approaches its 20th anniversary of service to Cullman County, plans are underway to celebrate the achievement.
Hutson said, “The community is invited to help us celebrate our 20th anniversary by attending one of our Open House events scheduled for August. Participants will learn more about the services we provide, our impact in the community and our vision for the future.”
That vision includes a new, expanded facility to be built on Veterans Drive in 2025. According to Hutson, the new location “will have a larger waiting room to accommodate after-hours patient education classes and events.”
