JONES CHAPEL, Ala. – The Jones Chapel Volunteer Fire Department recently received confirmation that Anheuser-Busch will be sending a large quantity of drinking water to the unit as early as next week through a grant program.
Jones Chapel Volunteer Fire Department Chief Clint Thrasher said the unit is excited to receive the donation.
“Anheuser-Busch is shipping the water from the brewery to a local distributor and then they will deliver it to (the) station in a beer truck hopefully next week,” Thrasher said. “They are doing this through the Emergency Drinking Water for Wildland Firefighters program from Anheuser-Busch in partnership with the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC).”
Thrasher said the grant opportunity was advertised by the NVFC.
“We were awarded one pallet of canned water (2,352 cans) through this grant,” Thrasher said. “Drinking water is an expense for volunteer fire departments that a lot of people don’t think about. It’s easy to go through several cases on any incident that occurs this time of the year. Also, sharing it with our neighboring agencies during their fires is allowed so we have the opportunity to help out other departments.”
Thrasher said they encourage the public to donate water and sports drinks (Gatorade, Powerade, Liquid I.V., etc.) to their local volunteer fire departments, especially this time of year in the extreme heat.
