FAIRVIEW, Ala. – The Fairview Town Council on Tuesday, June 11, discussed the creation of a new park.
The council heard from representatives of CDG Engineering who proposed their services to help create a master plan to include assisting the Town with grants and creating a budget for appropriate bids, etc.
The council briefly touched on its vision for the new park. It hopes to include both competitive and recreational elements that would serve all age groups. These elements could potentially include a splash pad, new ball fields, a pickleball court, walking trails and more.
Mayor Keith Henry stated, “This council has been conservative. We haven’t wasted money. Our funds have grown, and I’d like to put it into something big that makes an impact on the whole community.”
Councilwoman Julie Grimes supported the mayor’s idea, stating, “I want to see the land and property used in the best way – for kids, for adults, for senior citizens – and the best way to do that is to have a plan.”
The location of the new park has not been decided.
After a motion was made to accept CDG Engineering’s proposal for park planning services, the council approved it unanimously.
The council is calling for community input as it begins planning this new endeavor. Fairview residents are invited to attend monthly council meetings or contact the Town via Facebook with ideas and examples of things they would like to see in the new park.
The next Fairview Town Council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on July 1, 2024, at Fairview Town Hall located at 7525 Alabama Highway 69.
