Obituary: Thomas E. “Tommy” Warhurst

Thomas Edward “Tommy” Warhurst, 74 of Cullman, passed away Monday evening June 10, 2024. 

Cullman Funeral Home is honored to serve the family. 

Tommy was born on January 18, 1950, in Colbert County and also lived and worked in Blount and Cullman counties. He is a 1968 graduate of Cherokee Vocational High School and a 1972 graduate of Florence State University (UNA) where he walked on to play football and soon earned a scholarship along with a degree in accounting and management. He received his banking degree from Vanderbilt School of Banking and spent 35 years working in the banking industry. Tommy served 14 years in the Alabama Army National Guard in Tuscumbia. He was an ordained deacon and a 2011 inductee into the Colbert County Sports Hall of Fame. Through the years, he was president of the Shoals Area Chamber of Commerce, The Red Cross and other organizations as well as an active Rotarian. Tommy & his wife Cala, went on several youth choir/mission trips, including a 17 day trip to the former East Germany and housed several youth from Germany who were on tour in Oneonta and Cullman. 

Tommy is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Cala Denton Warhurst. June 20, 2024 would have marked their 55th wedding anniversary. He is also survived by Two sons, Thomas Dewey Warhurst (Angela) and Daniel  Edward Warhurst, daughter April Warhurst White (Jeff), his brother Mike Warhurst (Cheryl) and sisters Gail Bowers and Brandy Tidwell (Jamie), four grandchildren, Jade McWhorter, Zoe Vincent, Evan White and Julia White. 

Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Pascal Warhurst, mother, Fronia McCullough Warhurst & brother Kenneth Ray Warhurst. 

A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, June 19th at Seventh Street Baptist Church in Cullman, located at 708 7th ST SW, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. followed by the celebration service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family ask you make donations to The Good Samaritan Health Clinic or Curt’s Closet, both located in Cullman.
