VINEMONT, Ala. – At the end of June 11’s Vinemont Town Council Meeting, Mayor Radginal Dodson addressed the public before seeking a motion to dismiss.

“I have an announcement I have to make, not one I particularly like to do, but I would like to make everyone aware that Sonya Copeland, Council Place 5, has resigned from office starting today, June 11, 2024,” Dodson shared.

Copeland was sworn into office in November 2020, taking Place 5 when she was elected to the council in August 2020. In September 2021, Copeland was appointed by her fellow council members to oversee the Town’s finances.

With the new and unexpected vacancy, the council is seeking nominations for the open seat. Nominated individuals must be registered voters within the municipality limits with a valid address within the municipality limits. Nominations can be made to the council and sent to Vinemont Town Hall in the form of a written letter by mail, email or delivered in person to the town clerk.

Dodson added, “If anyone has any questions, feel free to contact town hall.”

The Vinemont Town Council will hold a special-called meeting on Tuesday, June 18, at 6 p.m. to hear nominations.

Vinemont Town Hall is located at 36 Patton Drive and can be reached at 256-737-5411 or info@townofsouthvinemont.com.
