HOLLY POND, Ala. — Holly Pond’s Violet Adams spent several years competing with the Broncos track and field team and she shared some of her favorite memories and experiences with her teammates.
“My favorite memory from track-and-field was when we won the sectional track meet my senior season. We have gotten runner-up a few times for sectionals, but being able to come home with a championship showed us that all the hard work and dedication we put into the sport really paid off,” Adams said. “This team is not just a team; it’s a family. It was great having them on my side, helping me, and pushing me during the meets to help me perform to the best of my abilities. The friendships that I have gained at my time at Holly Pond will never be forgotten.”
Violet learned three important things during her track-and-field career and took away an extremely important thing from some great coaches.
“I learned discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. It takes a lot to be a runner, and it comes down to those three things, whether it’s an individual event or a team event,” she said. “The coaches are amazing. Coach P and Mr. Russell have pushed me for the past two years and have cheered me on and helped me improve in so many different ways. Knowing and having amazing coaches like ours that make practices fun, but also helping me and my teammates improve, have helped tremendously. One thing I have learned from my coaches that has stayed with me is if I fail or do something wrong, don’t give up. Our coaches are very uplifting and will help you fix your mistakes. With their coaching, I have seen a huge difference in my performance, at practices, and at the meets.”
This team will definitely hold a special place in her heart and she talked about one of her favorite high school memories.
“I will forever remember this track team. I have done track for six years, and I have grown so much in the sport. I will miss the coaches and the team the most. They have all made a huge impact in my life, and I’m so grateful to have gotten the chance to run for this school and this team,” she said. “My favorite high school memory would have to be when we did the Homecoming Olympics. We worked together as a team, and we cheered each other on.”
She talked about what made Holly Pond a special place to go to, what she will remember and miss the most about being a Bronco, and the best advice that someone has ever given her.
“Holly Pond has always been special, not only to me, but my family as well. The town of Holly Pond is not a big community, but it sure is the best town in Cullman, Alabama,” she said. “I will remember everything that has happened to me at the school. They have taught me so much in so many ways, and I’m so blessed to have been given the opportunities that I have been granted at my time at Holly Pond. I will miss the teachers and the students at Holly Pond. I will forever remember the friendships I have made at my time at Holly Pond and to carry them on with me in the future. I had someone once tell me that there are two ways things will go in life. Either you can fall down and give up, or you can fall, get back up, and try again, but quitting should never be the answer.”
Violet was in her fair share of clubs and took away so much from that experience. She talked about her college plans and gave those students that are fixing to start high school in August some advice.
“I was a part of Key Club, Beta Club, and FCCLA. I learned so much about teamwork, leadership, and pursuing my passions. I picked up valuable skills like organization, public speaking, and problem-solving. Most of all, I had a ton of fun exploring my interests with the students,” she said. “My plan is to do one year at Wallace to receive my associates degree, and then move on to Calhoun Community College to become a Surgical Tech. My advice to them is to do your best in everything and anything that you do. Don’t rush into things and get yourself in a mess. Don’t procrastinate and get it done. Work on the things you need to get done when you get it.”
Something life-changing happened to one of Violet’s friends in 2021 that caused her to take her life a lot more seriously. She also talked about a very important role model in her life and how important it is to her to be a role model for younger people.
“Back in 2021, I lost a friend of mine in a car wreck, and it has made me take life very seriously. Life is precious, and we are not promised tomorrow,” she said. “My biggest role model would have to be my dad. He was a big sports guy and still is to this day. He is a hard worker and very dedicated to everything he does. It is very important to me that I make the right decisions in life so that they don’t make mistakes and get pressured to do things that some people do. I have three younger siblings at Holly Pond, and I know most of their friends. I want to be the best role model for all the younger generations.”
She gave some advice to those people that want to be where she’s at right now, and she talked about what she wants people to remember about her.
“It’s going to be a hard ride, and it’s going to take a lot of time, but in the end, after it’s all done, you can look back at what you have done, and be proud of yourself,” she said. “I want people to remember me as a hardworking person, whether it be work, school, or sports. I also want people to remember me as someone who is funny, but caring at the same time, and let people know that if they need someone to talk to, I’ll always be there for them.”
