CULLMAN, Ala. – United Way of Cullman County (UWCC) expanded its community outreach this month with its second annual book drive. Running from May 11-18 and featuring book signings by local authors, the drive was able to secure and put over 300 books into the hands of children and teens from the Cullman County area.
Residents, businesses and organizations were encouraged to participate in the philanthropy by dropping new and gently used books in the designated UWCC Book Drive boxes placed around town.
UWCC Executive Director Stephanie Childers said, “The second annual book drive was a huge success. The community donated over 300 books to Little (Free) Libraries and daycares in need all over the county.”
The drive was backed by UWCC’s Success by Six program, an initiative that focuses on cognitive skills along with social and emotional development of children younger than 6.
“We also had the honor of having two local authors, Kaitlin Chappell Rogers and Caris Snider ‘book end’ our event with book signings,” said Childers. “You can pick up your copies of Kaitlin Chappell Rogers’ and Caris Sniders’ publications at Monograms Plus, Yates Christian Bookstore or Amazon.”
Snider appeared at the Karma’s Coffee House on Saturday, May 11, to speak about and sign her books “Anxiety Elephants 31 Day Devotions,” “There’s an Elephant on My Chest” and “Car Line Mom.” Rogers was present at the UWCC office on May 18 to highlight her books “Not From God: Taking Back the Narrative of Your Life” and “Hey Little Flower Girl.”
Many of the community’s Little Free Libraries and childcare centers benefited from the donations brought in during the drive.
“We are grateful for the community support and look forward to our next event,” smiled Childers.
