Before the race: Whitney Haynes, Leslie Arnold, Lauren Estes and Jack McGee (Lauren Estes)

For Memorial Day, several of my gym fitness friends and myself ventured to the Cotton Row 5K in Huntsville.

What an experience!

The 5K event featured 1,257 finishers in the race. Several friends and I also completed the race.

Fairview teachers Whitney Haynes and Leslie Arnold, as well as track athlete Jack Haynes, business owner Kennedy Daniel and multifaceted athlete Jack McGee all competed.

We enjoyed representing our awesome community in a neighboring city.

Haynes finished first in her 35-39 age group with a time of 24:30.

I (Lauren Estes) finished third in my age group of 30-34 with a time 23:36.

We cannot wait to join in on this race again next year!

The Cotton Row Run features a 10K, 5K and 1-mile running option.

For 44 years, the Cotton Row Run has been the premier Memorial Day running event in the South that honors fallen military members who sacrificed their lives for our freedom! Runners pass through a living memorial flag line that commemorates fallen warriors whose family members live in North Alabama. Proceeds from the race benefit Gold Star Families, Snowball Express, Gold Star Moms and other charities in the community. The Cotton Row Run is conducted by the Huntsville Track Club. (https://runsignup.com/Race/AL/Huntsville/CottonRowRun)
