HANCEVILLE – Historic downtown Hanceville was abuzz on Saturday, as crowds enjoyed the 7th Annual Mud Creek Arts & Crafts Festival. The breezy and slightly cooler weather made for a great day for those in attendance.
Lashan Johnson, 44, of Cullman was a vendor at the festival, selling a fine selection of boutique items. Johnson says the day was a success.
“I was able to meet more people and give people who may not travel an opportunity to look at my things,” said Johnson, who currently owns a store in Warrior, but is looking to relocate it to Hanceville. She says her store will be located on Bangor Avenue in downtown Hanceville. Johnson shared that she was able to make several connections during the festival and has a head start on becoming a success in town as a result.
JoAnn Gunn, of Hayden, and her granddaughter, Emma Busby, had never been to Mud Creek before this year, and they were impressed by Hanceville and the wide selection of goods available for purchase at the festival.
“There was everything from dolls, jewelry, to all kinds of arts and crafts. My granddaughter was able to find several things,” said Gunn. Gunn is a proponent of shopping locally, and said about local festivals such as Mud Creek, “It helps the community; your taxes stay local so they can be used for your own community’s projects.” She also noted “everything was reasonable,” regarding the cost of items for sale at the festival.
The Mud Creek Arts & Crafts Festival is a project of the Hanceville Civitan Club. All proceeds generated will go to Hanceville’s schools.
In addition to the many vendors onsite, there were kids' activities, locally-grown produce, live entertainment and historical events such as walking tours and rides on Hanceville’s first fire truck. Trinity Lutheran Church provided an authentic German lunch.
