Jayne Braswell Cobb, 86, of Cullman left this world to be with her Lord and Savior on May 16 after a long illness. Jayne was born on July 13, 1937, in South Walter to Rev. A. E. (Earl) and Mrs. Johnnie Braswell, the youngest of a large and happy farming family. She studied the piano from a young age, and used this skill in church and at Vacation Bible Schools at churches across Cullman County.

She graduated from Hanceville High School in 1955 and married her high school sweetheart, Bill Cobb, a year later. As the youngest child of middle-aged parents, Jayne wanted to start her own family while she and her husband were still young, so the first of their four daughters arrived a year after she and Bill were married.

Jayne was a “crafty lady,” and once her time was no longer taken up in making prom dresses for her girls, she was free to explore new interests, taking up macramé in her forties, ceramics in her fifties, golfing in her sixties, and abstract painting in her seventies. Vacation Bible School continued to be her passion, and she served as VBS Director for many years, first at Simcoe Baptist Church and later at First Baptist Church of Fairview.

Remaining to cherish her memory are her loving husband of sixty-seven years, Bill Cobb; her daughters Pam (Richard) Gorham of Cullman; Sheri (Mike) South of Loveland, Colorado; April (Jay) Pearson of Simcoe; Kelli (Roddy) Mitchell of Hayden; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and many good friends. Her heavenly arrival was greeted by her parents, Earl and Johnnie Braswell; her brother, Ray Braswell; her sisters Emily Tucker, Edith Webb, Mary Guthrie, and Willie Dale Braswell; and her granddaughter Sara Beth Pearson.

Her family would like to express particular thanks to the staffs of Hanceville Rehabilitation and Westminster Assisted Living for their loving care of Jayne, and of all of us, during her passing.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 19 at First Baptist Church of Fairview at 2 p.m., with the funeral service following at 3 p.m., Dr. David Chambers officiating. A reception in the church fellowship hall will conclude the afternoon’s events. Guests are encouraged to celebrate Jayne’s love of decorative pins and brooches by wearing their own favorite pin in her honor.
