2 arrested following crash, pursuit

CULLMAN, Ala. – Two Jefferson County men were arrested in Cullman County Thursday, May 16, after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop, according to the Cullman Police Department.

“Officer Chad Ashworth stopped the subjects on Cherokee Avenue. During the stop the driver intentionally backed into the officer’s car and fled,” said the CPD’s Adam Clark. “The suspects crashed at the rest area exit and fled on foot as officers pursued them. The aviation unit located the suspects, who were then taken into custody by officers. Both subjects had misdemeanor warrants with other jurisdictions.”

Passenger Diaundre Rashad Perez, 29, of Birmingham is charged with felony attempting to elude and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. The driver, Antonio Dequan Hasberry, 28, of Tarrant, is charged with felony criminal mischief, felony attempting to elude and second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana.

The CPD did not release any details about why the vehicle was initially stopped.
