HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Wallace State Community College’s women’s golf team finished third in the district at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women’s South District Championship in Brenham, Texas.
The Lions finished behind Tyler Junior College out of Tyler, Texas and tournament host Blinn College. Tyler JC finished at +50, with Blinn at +86 and WSCC at +98.
Following behind Wallace State was Shelton State (+105), Southern Union (+138), Calhoun Community College (+140), Jefferson State (+210) and Snead State (+214).
Wallace State sophomore Aidan Haithcock of Homewood finished third in the district at +14 for the two days of play. Sophomore Abby Gattis of Jacksonville came in 15th at +26, sophomore Sydney Epes of Water Valley, Miss., at 16th with +28 and freshman Isabella Warwick of Huntsville 17th at +30. Freshman Sarah Mooney of Fairhope rounded out the Lions players in 28th place with +40.
With her third-place finish at district, Haithcock qualified to compete as an individual at the NJCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship, which will be held May 19-24 at Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Fla., hosted by Eastern Florida State College.
The Wallace State men’s golf team will be playing in the NJCAA DI Men’s National Championship May 14-17 at Rockwind Community Links Golf Course in Hobbs, NM.
