CULLMAN – The Cullman County School Board held their October meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 11, where several items were discussed and approved.

 

  • Approved request from Hanceville Middle School to pay Kim Kanaday $5 per game as scorekeeper for volleyball and basketball during the 2016-17 season.
  • Approved request from Hanceville High School to pay Val Jones to drive the bus for band competitions on Saturdays.
  • Approved teachers to teach online ACCESS Class for 2016-17 school year. The teachers are Billy Troutman at the Cullman Area Technology Academy, Shelia Mitchell at Fairview High, Selena Skipper at Good Hope, Lacey McGriff at Hanceville, Shannon Ray at Holly Pond and Connie Hilton at Vinemont.
  • Approved request to pay Elaine Wren, instructional coach, a supplement for developing weekly reading assessments for first grade, to be paid at an hourly rate through a general fund.
  • Approved a bid from Central States Metal for a metal roof system at Vinemont High School.
  • Approved a bid to Johns & Kirksey Inc. for re-roofing needed after storm damage at Vinemont Middle School.
  • Approved lighting projects at Ray Talley Stadium at Hanceville High School and Donald Freeman Field at Cold Springs High School. Engineering costs for both projects will be at $20,500 with material costs to be more than $100,000.
  • Approved of change order no. 2 from C.H. Harris on stadium seating replacement at Dafford Smith Stadium at Fairview High School. All work will be associated with the stabilization of slopes per recommendation from Terracon for an additional cost of $5,945.54.
  • Approved out-of-state trips for Good Hope High to New York City May 31, 2017; for Hanceville High for band trip to Orlando, Florida March 24-28, 2017; for Vinemont and Hanceville High for FCCLA trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina March 25-29, 2017; and for Vinemont Elementary for trip to Tennessee Aquarium Oct. 28, 2016.
  • Approved the District Continuous Improvement Plan.
  • Approved the Individual School Continuous Improvement Plans.
  • Approved the System English Learner Plan.
  • Approved the Local Education Agency Title 1 plan.
  • Approved the Cullman County Schools parental involvement plan.
  • Approved request from Dr. Anita Kilpatrick for Donald Lynn to serve on the textbook committee for adaption of AP Government textbook.

In other business, CCBOE Superintendent Shane Barnette reported school bus safety week/bus driver appreciation week will take place the week of Oct. 17-21.

Parent-teacher conference day will be held Oct. 24.

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month.

The next regular meeting of the CCBOE will be Thursday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. in the central board conference room. The public is invited to attend.
