Wallace State welcomes new members into English and Math Honor Societies

HANCEVILLE, Ala.  — The Wallace State Community College chapters of Sigma Kappa Delta and Mu Alpha Theta honor societies recently inducted new members.

Sigma Kappa Delta (SKD) is the National English Honor Society for two-year colleges. Wallace State’s Theta Delta Chapter was established in 2007. SKD provides students with opportunities for advancing language and literature study, developing creative and analytical writing skills, networking with peers and obtaining scholarships.

Students invited to join SKD are required to have a minimum overall GPA of 3.3, have completed one college English course with a grade not lower than a B, and have completed at least 12 hours of college credit.

Hayden: Anna Jones

Prattville: Adrianna Nicole Sides

Trafford: Blair Echols

Vinemont: Anika Oden

Mu Alpha Theta (MAT) is a mathematics honor society for high school and community college students. MAT provides members with avenues to showcase mathematical knowledge, connect with peers and further promote the enjoyment of mathematics.

To be recommended for membership in MAT, students must have completed Math 112 or higher with a GPA of 3.0 in qualifying math classes.

SKD sponsor is English instructor Karen Morris. MAT Sponsors are Mathematics instructors Dr. Krystal Davis and Melissa Arnold. In addition to facilitating networking and scholarship opportunities, both organizations actively engage in annual community service initiatives, social events and other academic projects.
