CULLMAN, Ala. – A Decatur man was arrested March 2, 2024, charged with homicide by vehicle, criminally negligent homicide and following too closely. The arrest followed the Cullman County grand jury indictment on Aug. 17, 2023, of Nicholas Orlando Gordon, 35.
The charges stem from a wreck that occurred on Oct. 9, 2020, along Intestate 65 in Cullman County. The crash claimed the life of Kristin Hudson Cohn, 32, of LaGrange, Georgia.
At the time, Alabama State Troopers said Cohn was killed when the 2004 Mazda MVP in which she was a passenger was struck by a 2008 GMC Yukon. The crash occurred when the Mazda struck a vehicle in the southbound lane before crossing the median where it was struck by the Yukon. Cohn, who was not using a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the 2023 indictment, Gordon caused Cohn’s death “by following another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicle and the traffic upon the condition of the highway.”
The Tribune is reaching out to Cullman County District Attorney Champ Crocker for more information.
