STEAM Camp 2024 at Wallace State

CULLMAN, Ala. – This summer, Wallace State Community College is set to become a hub of innovation and learning with the return of the highly anticipated STEAM Camp. Designed for students entering grades three through eight in the 2024-2025 school year, this camp promises to be a thrilling exploration of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

Registration opens on March 1st, with the camp running from July 8-12 for third-fifth graders and July 22-26 for sixth-eighth graders. Registration for each camp is limited to 75 students, but a waitlist will be maintained for those unable to secure a spot during the registration period. Students will register for the grade they are entering for the 2024-2025 school year. There is no cost required to participate.

Located at Wallace State Community College, the STEAM Camp offers a unique opportunity for young minds to dive deep into the realms of STEAM through hands-on activities, interactive workshops and exposure to the latest technologies. Participants will have the chance to work alongside expert collegiate faculty members, developing essential skills such as problem-solving, teamwork and critical thinking in a dynamic and engaging environment.

The camp is designed to make complex concepts accessible and fun. From exploring the aerodynamics behind a superhero’s flight to understanding the chemical reactions in baking, the curriculum is tailored to break down scientific principles into engaging, hands-on lessons that relate to the real world. This approach ensures that learning is not only relevant but also exciting for participants, sparking a deeper interest in STEAM subjects.

One of the most exciting aspects of the STEAM Camp is its ability to bring together like-minded peers and experts in the field, creating a community of learners who can share their passion for science and technology. This collaborative environment is perfect for inspiring creativity, igniting curiosity and potentially paving the way for future educational and career opportunities in the STEAM fields.

Aubry Lovell, coordinator of the North Central Alabama STEM Ecosystem, shared her excitement for camp this year, “STEAM Camp is so exciting because it offers a unique opportunity for students to dive deeper into their interests in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It provides a hands-on learning experience where students can explore new concepts, work on exciting projects and interact with like-minded peers and experts in the field. STEAM Camp can ignite curiosity, inspire creativity and potentially pave the way for future educational and career opportunities in STEAM.”

By the end of the camp, participants will have experienced significant growth, not just in their understanding of STEAM subjects but in their ability to solve problems, think critically and collaborate with others. Most importantly, they will leave the camp with increased confidence in their abilities and will have gained new excitement for further exploration in STEAM.

The STEAM Camp also serves an important role in showcasing the wide array of career opportunities available in STEAM fields. By providing early exposure to these careers, students can see the real-world applications of their learning, inspiring them to pursue paths they might not have previously considered. With the future job market increasingly demanding a STEM-proficient workforce, early exposure through the STEAM Camp prepares students for these future demands, equipping them with the skills to become critical thinkers, innovators, and problem-solvers, regardless of the career path they choose.

Don’t miss this opportunity to ignite a passion for STEAM in your child. For more information and to register, visit the North Central Alabama STEM Ecosystem Facebook page or the Wallace State Community College website. A link to register will be found on either site when registration opens.
