CULLMAN, Ala. – The United Way of Cullman County’s annual Crawfish & Shrimp Boil will take place Friday, March 15, from 5-7 p.m. at Goat Island Brewing. The all-you-can-eat seafood feast will feature a traditional Cajun boil of fresh crawfish and shrimp, along with potatoes and corn thrown in the spicy simmer for an authentic feel to the meal.
Tickets are $40 each for the smorgasbord, provided and prepared by local resident and Louisiana native Aaron Coombs, the owner of Hank’s Sports Bar and Rumors Deli. Local business Vest Plumbing generously donated all the produce for the boil and entertainment will be pumping all night courtesy of local favorite Avenue G. Proceeds will benefit the United Way’s 19 nonprofits partner agencies, which offer community services such as food banks, shelters and utility assistance programs.
“Our crawfish boil, the money raised goes straight into our nonprofits that we have with United Way,” said United Way of Cullman County Executive Director Stephanie Childers. “We have 19 nonprofits here in Cullman locally that are under our umbrella that we support, and all the money that is raised goes back into them to grow them, nourish them and help them be the best they can be. We do this as an outreach as well; this is our Young Professionals Board, and our YP board is growing.”
The Young Professionals Board has Resource Development and Outreach Manager Taylor Johnson leading the charge. The collective of young professionals is using the Crawfish & Shrimp Boil as its board outreach program, throwing the shindig and organizing the details.
Speaking of the Young Professionals Board and prospective members, Johnson said, “It’s a stepping stone to get to the ‘big’ board one day. If you have a love for charity or just giving back to the community and you are a young professional and you can bring something to the table, we want you!”
