PHELAN – A shooting in the Phelan area at approximately 9:30 p.m. Wednesday evening resulted in one fatality. The incident occurred in an apartment on County Road 625.
According to Cullman County Coroner Jeremy L. Kilpatrick, Edwin Lee Wood, 43, of Phelan was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The person involved in the shooting has been detained at this point. There is no danger to the community in the area," said Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry.
The identity of the shooter is being withheld at this time.
"We are in the early stages and are still investigating," continued Gentry. "Once we receive further information, we’ll be able to release more details."
Kilpatrick says the body has been sent for an autopsy.
