CULLMAN, Ala. – At its monthly meeting on Feb. 22, the Cullman County Library Board unanimously approved Amber Thornton as the new director of the Cullman County Public Library System.

Interim Director Jill Meggs, after the approval of the minutes from the January meeting, said, “I am making the motion and recommendation that we hire Amber Thornton as our new library director. She brings a host of experience from our local school system in library science and education. She also has extensive experience in fundraising and grant writing, which we know our library system desperately needs.”

The motion was seconded by board member Rusty Turner, and the vote was unanimous.

The board also approved the signing of the Alabama Super Computer Authority application. “This is a grant, essentially, that we have to apply for yearly in order for our library to have free internet access,” said Meggs. “That piece of documentation was not sent to the State.”

The next Cullman County Library Board meeting will be held at the library’s main branch on Thursday, March 22, at noon.
