CULLMAN – Friday night, Goat Island Brewing kicked off October with their very first Oktoberfest event. The brewery was bursting at the seams with some very happy Cullmanites. The crowd swayed to the Round 2 band while sipping on the delicious brewed beer Goat Island is known for.

One of the owners, Brad Glenn, said as he served customers behind the bar, “We’re overwhelmed with the support we get consistently from this community. We have hopes and dreams and we’re amazed every time we have an event people show up and support us. We’re very greatly and glad to be here and feel very fortunate.”

Owners Mike Mullaney, Gery Teichmiller, John Dean and Glenn opened Goat Island Brewing in early 2015. According to Glen they are hoping to make this an annual event. Customer Chris Holmes gave his reasons for coming out, saying, “To have a good time and get the Oktoberfest going on!”

Mad Dog Mike’s Famous Bar B Que set up their truck onsite, with the local favorite an added win to the already great party.

“This is a pre-Oktoberfest party to celebrate Cullman’s heritage. We have Colonel Cullman here that is promoting for the beer that was brewed here in 1880s. We are spreading the love of Cullman County to the South and everybody loves the beer that William F. Richter brewed in the 1880s,” explained John Dean.

Dean continued as per Goat Island’s motto, “We’re blessed. Life is great, and life is too short to drink baaad beer.”

The story of Goat Island Brewing…

Goat Island Brewing was founded on friendship and the art of making good beer. Two of our founders, Mike Mullaney and Gery Teichmiller met during the Cullman Oktoberfest Celebration in 2012. Both were avid home brewers and loved to design and perfect beer recipes. Both had a faithful following of friends and family who loved their beers. When the two of them began to collaborate and brew together the synergy took their beer recipes to a new level. When the two of them got an opportunity to help start the first brewery in Cullman since the 1880s, they jumped at it. They along with John Dean and Brad Glenn formed the Blue Moose Brew Crew. They brewed their beers and served them at the Blue Moose Café and Brewpub in 2013. The beers were a huge success. The success of this venture convinced the four friends to open their own brewery. In early 2015 Goat Island Brewing was formed.
