BREMEN, Ala. – After capturing the 2A, Area 11 championship Monday, the Cold Springs Lady Eagles returned to the court Friday night for a Sub-Regional game against the Isabella Lady Mustangs. Cold Springs jumped out to a big lead in the opening period and never let Isabella back into the game, cruising past the Mustangs 72-30 to advance to this year’s Central Regional Tournament.

Cold Springs didn’t waste any time getting on the scoreboard first, as back-to-back treys from the right wing by Paizley Whitlow gave them a quick 6-0 lead. A rebound and putback by Isabella made it a 6-2 game, but Ella Bruer, Maci Brown, and Whitlow each nailed a three to stretch the Lady Eagles’ lead to 15-2. Ciara Calvert drilled one from long-range, and Whitlow would later hit her fourth three of the quarter to make it a 21-7 game. Kenady Graves and Bruer each added a layup, and Calvert drained the Lady Eagles’ eighth trey of the period to increase their lead to 28-9. Cold Springs would take a 28-12 lead into the second quarter.

Whitlow hit a pair from the line, and Calvert added a layup to give the Lady Eagles a 32-12 lead early in the second. Brown put one in from deep, Calvert added another layup, and Bruer buried a three to make it a 41-15 game. Whitlow finished out a strong first half in style, hitting two more threes, to give Cold Springs a commanding 48-15 lead at the half.

Whitlow hit a pair of layups, Bruer and Macie Huffstutler each added one, Brown hit a short jumper and Graves put in a pair of layups in the third quarter, as the Lady Eagles went into the final quarter up 63-17. Baskets by Hollyn Bruer and Huffstutler gave Cold Springs a 69-19 lead, then later on, a trey by Hollyn Bruer made it a 72-26 game. The Lady Eagles would go on to roll past the Lady Mustangs, 72-30, to move on to the Sweet 16 for the second straight season.

Whitlow finished with a game-high 26 points for Cold Springs. Calvert and Ella Bruer each added 10 points. Brown put in eight points, while Graves, Hollyn Bruer, and Huffstutler each finished with six points.

Cold Springs will face Vincent in the first round of this year’s AHSAA Central Regional Tournament at Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham Thursday.
