BLOUNTSVILLE – The Hanceville Bulldogs traveled to Blountsville on Friday night looking to come away with an important region victory while erasing a two-game losing streak. Unfortunately, it was not their night, as Susan Moore cruised to an easy 56-21 win over the now 2-5 Hanceville Bulldogs.

The game got off to a sloppy start for both teams with a total of seven fumbles in the first half; Susan Moore was able to capitalize on these mistakes while Hanceville was not. The Susan Moore offense scored the game’s first three touchdowns, jumping out to a 21-0 lead. It was looking like Hanceville was going to go down without a fight until senior cornerback Tre Martin recovered a Susan Moore fumble and returned it 55 yards for the score. The Hanceville defense responded with a quick stop getting the ball back to their offense with three minutes remaining in the first half. Hanceville quarterback Alex Cambell led the Bulldogs on an impressive drive into the red zone, looking to make it a one possession game going into the half. That is until Susan Moore senior safety Angel Duarte made the play of the game and picked off a Cambell pass, weaving his way to a 93-yard pick six.

Hanceville was never able to regain their composure or the momentum for the rest of the game.

Susan Moore came out of the locker room determined to not let Hanceville back in the game, scoring on nearly every possession in the second half putting the game out of reach late in the third quarter. Both teams were able to put in some of their younger players in the fourth quarter getting them some experience and valuable playing time. Hanceville running back BJ Smalls was the lone bright spot for the Bulldogs, gaining an impressive 122 yards on 18 carries and one touchdown while also adding another touchdown on a 75-yard catch and run from quarterback Cambell.

Hanceville will travel to Holly Pond next week to face off against the Broncos looking to get back in the winning column while Susan Moore will play a home game against Fultondale in another crucial region game.
