HANCEVILLE, Ala. – At its meeting on Thursday, Jan. 25, the Hanceville City Council discussed a potential new subdivision, which would require rezoning and annexation.
The proposed subdivision would be located on Hopewell Road. The proposal includes up to 87 new single-family homes. The property is not currently within Hanceville city limits. A hearing concerning rezoning and annexation has been set for Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the council’s regular meeting, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
In other business:

- The council discussed complaints received by the Hanceville Police Department concerning speeding on Edmondson Road; Chief Joshua Howell noted there is only one speed limit sign the entire length of the road, which may not be enough to inform motorists. Howell said he intends to ramp up the HPD’s presence on the road for the next 30 days and anticipates handing out many warnings and potentially speeding tickets as it works to re-inform the public of the speed limit.

The next council meeting will be held Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024. Work session begins at 5 p.m. with meeting following at 5:30. The public is invited to attend
