CULLMAN, Ala. – A Logan man died in a two-vehicle crash on Thursday, Jan. 25, just after 12:40 p.m. according to Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick.
Kilpatrick said Jerry Michael Simmons, 72, was killed in a head-on collision in the 9600 block of U.S. Highway 278 West between Jones Chapel and Bethel.
Alabama State Troopers said Simmons was fatally injured when the 2008 Toyota Tacoma he was driving collided head-on with a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Micah A. Godfrey, 27, of Arley.
Troopers said Simmons was not using a seat belt at the time of crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
They said Micah A. Godfrey and the passenger in the Chevrolet, Kelsey Godfrey, 24, also of Arley, were both injured and transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment. They said neither was using a seat belt at the time of crash.
Kilpatrick said personnel from the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Cullman EMS, Jones Chapel Volunteer Fire Department, Logan Volunteer Fire Department, Bethsadia Volunteer Fire Department and Sardis Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.
Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
