BREMEN, Ala. – After collecting wins over Hanceville Monday night, Good Hope hit the road to take on another county rival at Cold Springs Tuesday night and both the Raiders and Lady Raiders returned home with wins. The Lady Raiders cruised past the Lady Eagles 68-35 and the Raiders led by just seven at halftime but pulled away to defeat Cold Springs 60-46.
Good Hope 68 – Cold Springs 35 (Varsity Girls)
Ivey Maddox dropped in a floater to put Good Hope on the scoreboard first, but Cold Springs answered back with layups by Kenady Graves and Ella Dickerson to give them an early 4-2 lead. Both teams traded the lead several ties early on in the game. A three by Ciara Calvert gave the Lady Eagles a 9-7 lead, but a trey each by Heather Tetro and Maddox gave the Lady Raiders the lead right back at 13-9 with 3:40 remaining in the opening period. Cold Springs tied the game up at 15 on a pair of threes by Dickerson late in the quarter, but Emma Thompson quickly broke the tie with a three of her own on the other end, as Good Hope took an 18-15 lead into the second period.
Layups by Paizley Whitlow and Calvert gave the Lady Eagles a 19-18 lead, but Ava McSwain scored four straight points to give Good Hope a 22-19 lead. Six quick points by Maddox, including an and-one, quickly pushed the Lady Raider lead to 30-19. A putback each by McSwain and Jolee McHan saw Good Hope take a 34-19 lead into the locker room.
McSwain collected a pair of layups off of a pair of Cold Springs turnovers in the third quarter to make it 38-19. A rebound and putback by Bailey Tetro gave Good Hope a 40-19 lead. Ella Bruer stopped the bleeding with a trey on the other end to make it a 40-22 game, but baskets by McSwain and Bailey Tetro increased the Lady Raider lead to 49-23 going into the final period.
Five points by McSwain and a basket in the paint by Lillie McCluskey gave Good Hope a 56-26 lead and later on, a three each by Heather Tetro and Maddox pushed their lead to 64-31. A hot clock was run for the rest of the quarter, and Good Hope would go on to defeat Cold Springs, 68-35.
McSwain led the way for Good Hope (13-1) with 22 points. Maddox added 15 points, while Heather and Bailey Tetro each collected nine points in the win. For Cold Springs (13-2), Calvert finished with 10 points. Dickerson added nine points and Whitlow put in seven points.
Good Hope 60 – Cold Springs 46 (Varsity Boys)
The first quarter was a defensive one for both teams. Tucker Malin split his free throws to put Good Hope on the scoreboard first, but a steal and a layup by Tycen Kilgo gave Cold Springs the early 2-1 lead. K’mal Bell put in the first basket of the game for the Raiders with 5:08 remaining in the first quarter to give them a 3-2 lead, but a layup by Cole Bales and a trey by Kilgo gave Cold Springs the lead right back at 7-3. A jumper by Tyler Cone cut it to 7-5 late in the period, and later on, a steal and a layup by Malin made it a 9-7 game going into the second quarter.
Bales and Dakota Overton traded baskets to keep it at a two-point game early in the second. A layup by Seth Ingram and a trey by Bales pushed Cold Springs lead to 16-10, but a floater by Weston Hancock made it a 16-12 game with 5:19 left to go in the first half. Another Bales trey gave the Eagles a 19-12 lead, but Malin started to heat up, scoring seven straight points, to tie the game up at 19. A basket in the paint by Cone gave Good Hope a 21-19 lead. A technical was called on Bell, and Bales knocked down a pair from the line to tie the game up at 21 with a little over three minutes to go in the first half. A basket in the paint by Hancock, a trey by Malin, and a basket by Cone gave the Raiders a 29-22 lead at the break.
Five points by Malin and a basket by Hancock pushed the Raider lead to 36-23 in the third period, but the three-ball brought the Eagles right back into the game. A trey by Bales cut it to 36-26, then Ingram drilled a three from each corner to make it a 36-32 game with a little over a minute to go in the quarter. Tyler Byrd stopped the bleeding with one of his own from long-range to give Good Hope a 39-33 lead going into the final period.
Baskets by Malin and Cone made it a 43-33 game early in the fourth quarter, but Cold Springs looked to make things interesting again. Ingram’s three-point play cut it to 43-37, then later on, banked in a three from the left corner, to make it a 45-40 game with 5:23 left to go in the game. Malin answered right back with one of his own on the other end to push the Good Hope lead to 48-40. The Raiders started to pull away from the Eagles after that, as baskets by Bell and Malin made it a 55-43 game. Good Hope would go on to defeat Cold Springs 60-46.
Malin finished with a game-high 26 points for Good Hope (9-5). Cone added 10 points, and Bell put in eight points. For Cold Springs, Bales led the way with 16 points. Ingram wasn’t too far behind with 15 points and Kilgo put in seven points.
