HANCEVILLE, Ala. – If you need some Christmas cheer, the Wallace State Community College Fine and Performing Arts program will present its annual “Christmas Spectacular” Thursday, Dec. 7, in the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre. The free show begins at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.
The production will feature performances from the Wallace State Jazz Band, Concert Band, Concert Choir, Singers and Allegro Dance Theatre. The various performing arts programs will present pieces separately and collaboratively as a way to bring the ensembles together while also spotlighting individual programs.
“Our Christmas Spectacular is an exciting time of year when our talented students from all of the Fine and Performing Arts programs come together to create an unforgettable show for the community,” said Tiffany Richter, director of the Wallace State Singers and Concert Choir. “After weeks of hard work and preparation, the bands, choirs and dance troupes will be joining forces to bring a special blend of entertainment to the audience. Help us usher in the holidays with a remarkable evening of Christmas tunes for the whole family!”
The Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Jennie Stone will makes its debut, performing “Carol of the Bells” and “Patapan,” an old French carol.
“The Percussion Ensemble is comprised mostly of brass and woodwind students who have never played percussion before,” Stone said. “I’m very proud of how much they’ve learned in just a few months, and I’m excited for the future of our new Percussion Ensemble.”
The Concert Band will present “Sleigh Ride” alongside numerous other holiday favorites to get the audience in a festive spirit.
The Allegro Dance Theatre will perform a Rockettes-inspired choreography to “Hot Chocolate” from the film “Polar Express” as well as the “Sugar Plum Swing.”
The Choir and Singers will present songs such as “Like It’s Christmas” by the Jonas Brothers, “I’ll be Home for Christmas” originally by Bing Crosby and many familiar carols, all accompanied by the Wallace State Jazz and Concert Bands.
