VINEMONT, Ala. – If they’re not out already, break out the boots, jackets and gloves, because it’s almost time for Christmas on the Farm at Snead’s Farmhouse. The nonprofit has decided to open its doors to the public for a completely free holiday event. On Saturday, Dec. 9, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. families can drop in and explore owner Judy Snead’s 17-acre animal rescue and farm, including her petting zoo.
“I often look for ways to give back to the community, so I’m doing a free event,” Snead said. “Last year I had a paid event and hosted ever 150 families; this year I wanted it to be a free event so everyone could come.”
Snead started her farm as an educational rescue center for farm and livestock animals, quickly surpassing her capacity at the time. Seeing a larger need than what she could provide, she expanded her farm and has extended her community outreach. Today, Snead’s Farmhouse regularly hosts educational field trips, as well as students from the Cullman County Center for the Developmentally Disabled.
Snead reflected on her reasons for opening her farm to the public for free, saying, “I know that not every family has the means to do some fun Christmas outing. They may not be able to have a picture with Santa, and I want to do that for the community.”
Locals Mark and Tracy Summerville will bring Santa and Mrs. Claus to life, and parents and caregivers are welcome to take pictures during Christmas at the Farm. Farm animals will be transformed into snowmen and elves, roaming the grounds, ready to excite and amaze the littlest of visitors.
Refreshments will be ample; donations from Coca-Cola, Zaxby’s, Newk’s Deli, Dunkin’ Donuts and other generous local businesses will be available and free to all visitors. Live music will keep the day lively alongside all Snead’s planned festivities. Taking a break from opening for Kid Rock and Oliver Anthony, or sharing the stage with Journey frontman Arnel Pineda, West Point’s Sophie Raine will perform for guests and fans at the farm.
Christmas on the Farm begins on Saturday, Dec 9, at 11 a.m. and will be open until 2 p.m. Snead’s Farmhouse is located at 820 County Road 1225.
