ELMORE, Ala. – Former Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) Administrative Support Assistant II at Elmore Correctional Facility, Sarah Woodward, was arrested on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, and charged with first- and second-degree promoting prison contraband, second-degree possession of marijuana, use of official position for personal gain and trafficking methamphetamine.

During a search of the facility, ADOC Law Enforcement Services Division (LESD) K-9 units alerted on a vehicle in the parking lot. Woodward gave consent to search, and a suspicious package was discovered in Woodward’s vehicle. Woodward was detained until she could be interviewed by LESD agents. Once the package was opened and contraband was confirmed, Woodward was arrested and transported to the Elmore County Jail.

Former ADOC Correctional Security Guard at Staton Correctional Facility, Stefan Harris, was arrested on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023, and charged with first-degree promoting prison contraband, possession of a controlled substance and use of official position for personal gain.

Harris reported for duty and refused to enter the facility scanner, so he was detained to await LESD officers. The first officer on the scene discovered Harris attempting to dispose of a package, and, upon being searched, Harris was found to have other contraband on his person. Contraband was also discovered in his vehicle. After being interviewed by an LESD agent and having an ADOC evidence technician confirm the package contained contraband, Harris was taken into custody without incident. He was then transported to the Elmore County Jail.

Both investigations are ongoing and further charges may be pending.
