Nursing students giving back to active military through T-shirt sale

HANCEVILLE – The Wallace State Community College Association of Nursing Students (ANS) is paying it forward to a military medical unit with each T-shirt they sell this week for their own program.

Each year, the ANS organization creates one or two T-shirts for students to purchase as a fundraiser for their club. A perk for the students who purchase the T-shirts is they can wear those shirts to class when they’d prefer not to wear their scrub top every day.

An added advantage this year is that for every shirt sold, another special shirt will be put in a care package to be shipped to a medical unit serving overseas. Those shirts have an image on the front stating “Wallace State Supports Our Troops” and the words “EARNED NOT GIVEN” on the back, with the RN highlighted.

Students and the public can purchase the shirts for $18 for a short-sleeve shirt and $22 for a long-sleeve shirt. Other designs have an image of a lantern and the words, Lighting the Way to Leadership in Nursing or It’s a Beautiful Day to Save Lives. They come in a variety of colors. No matter which shirt is ordered, another shirt with the “Wallace State Supports Our Troops” shirt will be sent to the medical unit.

Orders will be taken through Wednesday, Sep. 21 in the centromere on the main floor of the School of Nursing and Center for Science.
